1. Information We Collect
Information you give us directly:
- Name, email address, phone number, shipping and billing address, and payment information (processed by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers) when you place an order or create an account.
- The food bank you select and any preferences you set for the Give A Pound giving program.
- Information you submit through contact forms, customer service emails, or newsletter sign-up.
Information collected automatically:
- Device and usage information, such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and referring URLs, collected through cookies and similar technologies (e.g., analytics tools) when you use the Site.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and the Site is not directed to children.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information above to:
- Process and fulfill your orders, including shipping and subscription billing;
- Communicate with you about your order, account, or customer service requests;
- Operate the Give A Pound giving program, including tracking and reporting pounds donated;
- Send marketing communications, where you've opted in, which you can opt out of at any time (see Section 6);
- Improve and secure the Site; and
- Comply with legal obligations, including tax, food safety, and charitable-solicitation recordkeeping requirements described in our Terms of Service.
3. How We Share Information
We share information only as needed to run the business:
- Service providers. Companies that help us operate — payment processing, order fulfillment and shipping carriers, email/SMS communications, website hosting and analytics — under contracts that limit their use of your information to providing services to us.
- The SLO Food Bank. We share aggregate, non-identifying donation totals with our charity partner. We do not share your individual purchase or contact information with the food bank unless you separately opt in (for example, to receive updates directly from them).
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Company, our customers, or others.
- Business transfers. If Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy or a successor policy.
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not share it with third parties for their own cross-context behavioral advertising purposes. If that ever changes, we will update this Policy and provide the opt-out mechanism described in Section 5 before doing so.
4. Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the Site functioning (for example, remembering your cart) and to understand how visitors use the Site (analytics). You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking some cookies may affect Site functionality, such as checkout.
5. Your Privacy Choices
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or by emailing hello@giveapound.com.
- Update or correct your account information by logging into your account or emailing us.
- Request deletion of your personal information by emailing hello@giveapound.com, subject to our need to retain certain records for order history, tax, food-safety, and legal compliance purposes.
A note on California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA): the California Consumer Privacy Act generally applies to larger businesses (those with over roughly $26 million in annual revenue, or that buy/sell/share personal information of 100,000+ CA consumers, or that derive most of their revenue from selling personal data). Give A Pound does not currently meet those thresholds. Because we still believe you should have meaningful control over your information, we honor the requests described above from all visitors regardless of legal threshold. If our business grows into full CCPA coverage, we will update this Policy to reflect the complete set of statutory rights (including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale/sharing) and the required “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” mechanism.
6. Data Retention
We retain order and account information for as long as needed to fulfill orders, provide customer service, meet tax and accounting requirements, and satisfy the recordkeeping obligations in our food bank partner agreements (see our How Our Giving Works page). We retain marketing contact information until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information, including relying on PCI-compliant payment processing so we never see or store your full card number. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we'll provide additional notice (such as an email or Site banner) where appropriate.
