Why Give A Pound was created
Give A Pound started with a simple frustration. California grows an extraordinary amount of food, and still too many families in this state cannot count on enough good protein. We thought the people who raise the best beef in California should be the ones helping fix that.

The problem
Protein is the first thing families cut
Across California, millions of people, including many working families with jobs, struggle to afford enough food. Protein is usually the most expensive part of a healthy plate, so it is the first thing to disappear from the cart when money is tight.
Food banks work hard to fill that gap, but quality protein is one of the hardest things for them to source and afford. That is the exact gap Give A Pound was built to close.
